Toby
Age: 10 years Gender: Gelding
We are thrilled to meet Toby, who will be coming to the Sanctuary in the next week.
Toby is a remarkable horse who has endured significant trauma in his life, yet he holds within him the potential for rebirth, joy and transformation. At approximately 10 years old, Toby’s journey began in a feed lot—a place that stripped him of his essence and spirit. Prior to him ending up in this horrific place, his background is unknown.
Thanks to the compassionate efforts of the White Stallion Ranch, he has found a refuge where he can start to heal. As a Belgian/Draft cross, Toby’s size makes him particularly vulnerable, and the risk of being sent to slaughter looms over him. Yet, despite his past, he now has a chance to embark on a new chapter in his life.
Toby’s eyes, often described as hollow, show an emptiness that reveals the emotional scars of his past. They speak of a longing for safety, love, and the freedom to simply be a horse. His skittishness around humans indicates the deep-seated fears that have taken root from his previous experiences. This is why our mission is vital—not just for Toby, but for all horses like him that we can help. By creating an environment where he can live freely and form intimate bonds with other horses, we aim to rekindle the magical spirit that lies dormant within him.
Toby represents hope and resilience. We envision him thriving in a space where he can rediscover trust and companionship, allowing his true personality to shine.
Wouldn’t he be a great ambassador to Equine Voices East, as we continue to spread our mission to the East Coast?
To bring this vision to life, we invite you to join us in supporting Toby’s cause. Your donations will provide the necessary resources for his care, rehabilitation, and integration into a loving community of fellow horses. Together, we can help Toby reclaim his identity and transform his sadness into joy.
Will you help us with this important endeavor? We are looking particularly for financial support with his transportation in order to ensure his safety on the East Coast. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a huge difference in his life. Let’s work together to bring Toby back to life and help him discover the happiness he so richly deserves.

Malcolm
Age: 10 years Gender: Gelding
Malcolm was originally adopted by a dear friend, and long time supporter of Equine Voices.
Following his owner’s sudden passing in early 2025, he was fostered for several months at a ranch in the Tubac area, before returning with his friend Twizzle to the Sanctuary.

Annabelle
Age: 15 years Gender: Female
This is the heartbreaking story of Annabelle, who was found abandoned on a woman’s property after she witnessed the offender back up his truck and trailer, unload this sweet girl into the desert, and had the audacity to wave as he drove away.
She was several hundred pounds underweight and has been placed on a starvation bowl protocol as well as daily alfalfa and free feed bermuda, she is gaining weight now and looks so much better!
She has a severely swollen back leg, likely due to an old injury that was never treated. She was seen by the vet and given several medications to treat her cellulitis. By the grace of God, there is no bone involvement. A follow up visit showed that the infection hasn’t traveled to her bones, and a lot of the swelling we are seeing is scar tissue.
After a routine follow up visit with our vet team, it was determined that due to this old injury and lack of treatment, she now suffers from Chronic Progressive Lymphedema, which indicates permanent damage to her lymph system.
Her medication and special feed alone will cost approximately $300 per month for the duration of her lifetime.
She is housed with Lucky, who she has become quite bonded to.
A $50 monthly sponsorship will go a long way in helping this sweet girl back to her best self!

Volunteer Babs Felix: “Annabelle loves to get out of her pen and take a walk to go visit the other horses: her head goes up and she almost prances when being led toward the mustang enclosure.”
Sylvia
Age: 24 years Gender: Female
Sylvia and her herd-mate were surrendered back to us after being adopted in 2012. The owners health had declined to the point that she was unable to care for them appropriately.
Since her return in 2024, she has made a remarkable recovery. She has gained weight, she is still a little shy, but not nearly as skittish as she once was. She is a sweet girl who spends her days with Gabe and Archangel Michael.
Did you know that you can make a difference in the daily healing journey of Sylvia with a $50/month sponsorship!
Gabe
Age: 21 years Gender: Gelding
Gabe was surrendered to us on June 9th of 2024, by his owner. Unfortunately, they could no longer appropriately care for him due to their own health issues.
He was significantly underweight, and will be placed on a starvation bowl protocol to assist in getting him back to a healthy weight. His teeth were horribly neglected, which contributed to his weight loss. After a good dental float and his new diet, he now has the tools to thrive.
Today, Gabe is doing well, although he and his herd are relatively shy. He still gets special treatment with extra bowls just for him! He has gained a significant amount of weight back and he looks and feels so much better!! He spends his days roaming with herd-mates, Sylvia, and Archangel Michael.
Please help support our efforts by
Grace
Age: 13 years Gender: Female

Grace, an 11-year-old mustang, arrived on May 26, 2024. She came from a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) background, identifiable by the brand marking on her body.
Grace previously enjoyed a loving home, but her owner’s life transitions led to difficulties in care and visits. With the owner unable to sustain her needs and the horse’s health declining, the owner’s father sought a new home.
Equine Voices intervened just in time to rescue Grace from potential auction or slaughter, ensuring her safety and well-being.

Eclipse

Eclipse was born at Equine Voices, and was named after the 2024 eclipse under which he was born.
This celestial event symbolizes a profound beginning and transformation for us. Eclipse represents a new light and serves as a reminder of the potential for significant change and growth. He embodies a fresh start and a promising future for our Sanctuary.
His mom is Gigi of the Devil’s Garden Plateau in Northern California. With the help of American Wild Horse Conservation and our supporters we were able to safe them both Gigi, and her sister Chloe in November of 2023.
Eclipse’s presence is a reminder of the profound impact of rescue efforts, as without them, we would never have had the joy of meeting Eclipse.
Eclipse has grown into a playful, curious, young gelding. He is very affectionate and welcomes any attention. The entire Devil’s Garden Plateau has had a part in helping Gigi raise Eclipse each step of the way.

Star’s Wind
Age: 23 years Gender: Male

As a resilient mustang horse, Star’s Wind strength and beauty were evident upon rescue. Now settled in a new corral among fellow rescue horses, he’s learning to trust again. With patience and care, Star’s Wind allows us to approach and pet him, as we work on building trust and addressing minor behavior issues.

Please click SPONSOR to help contribute to this sweet girl’s monthly expenses.
Volunteer Jody Rutt shared this memory of Angelique’s arrival :
I was volunteering the morning after a starving little filly was rescued from Dogpatch. She was standing in a stall in the main barn with her raggedy head hanging down, an IV band around her neck, and a huge ugly gash near her left hip and various other wounds on her body. The vet and Karen were standing outside the stall talking quietly. I figured they were discussing what to do next and maybe even if she could be saved. My eyes were blurry with tears and rage that this beautiful young creature had been so mistreated. She kept looking at the water bucket over in the corner of her stall & I instantly knew she wanted a drink but couldn’t walk to it. I asked if I could bring her a bucket of water and the vet said “Give her anything she wants!” I quickly grabbed a bucket & brought it to her. She drank that and half of a second bucket. As I stood in front of her holding that bucket I looked at her huge black wet eyes and was overwhelmed by the feeling that she wanted to live!! I named her “Bright eyes” in my head. I know she was named Angelique but she will always be “Bright eyes” to me!

But she frequently will follow a tour group as we walk around her enclosure, sticking her head out in-between the rails as if to say ‘pet me.’ If only we safely could!”

He did this not once but 3 times.”
