I’ll never forget that once upon a time, someone, who was very horse-savvy, told me that a healthy, not-overweight horse was one where the ribs showed, slightly. Well, welcome to Equine Voices! And we’re not fond of ribs, anywhere! When newly named “Nikko” arrived, in addition to seeing every rib plainly, all too plainly, his hip bones were massive. His skull, chest, and torso all indicated that he hadn’t been fed properly in months. But, for some unexplained reason that only God could devise, horses can be starved literally for weeks on end and still live, and, more importantly, recover, fully. Since he has arrived, Nikko has gained approximately 30 pounds already, and, if we have anything to say about it, will gain another 200 in no time – bye, bye ribs! You can always tell whether a horse has what it takes to live by looking into their eyes, the eyes don’t lie. Their will to live is apparent in the brightness of those baby blues, and Nikko had it when he unexpectedly arrived. A beautiful boy, he will be one of the tallest horses we have and probably weigh out at thirteen to fourteen hundred pounds. He’s not young, but he has a great disposition, he’s gentle, will be gorgeous, and make a great companion animal. Humans can do some terrible things to animals, but we can do wonders too! All “ribbing” aside, watch him grow! If you want to contribute to his growth, you’ll never miss the $ – join in our quest to change the lives of the horses that arrive at our gate.
